Tuesday 1/8/08

Today was an off day for the workouts. Good thing. My glutes were sore from the bulgarian split squats. A seemingly simple exercise but dastardly results. The balance required forces your booty to employ peripheral muscles that you probably don't get to work much. As a result, you get sore. It's a good feeling.

Eating low carb is difficult to start, but once in the rhythm you will enjoy it and feel better. I was watching a cooking show (briefly) and they were frying fish and displayed the final plate of food which consisted of the fried fish, french fries and a slathering of mayo'd cole slaw. At first, I was.. "mmm..." but then I was disgusted by it. A turning point psychologically when it comes to changing ones eating habits.

People who resist the low carb dieting often ask how do you do it. You just do it. It is that simple. You will have to give up the comfort foods. You will give up your traditional breads. But keep in mind that once you reach your goal, you can re-introduce those foods in moderation. Give yourself a cheat day once a week to have a plate of pasta or giant hoagie. Just don't make a habit of it. Use your work week to focus on your work and eat healthy and make the weekend your reward. But if you want to really maintain your goal, be smart and only eat those smart carbs (whole grains, etc).

Anyway... my wellness blog is about my progress, but if I can give some introspection to the mental side of the process I hope it will benefit someone.

Breakfast was 2 eggs microwaved scrambled (easy, cheap, and good). Lunch was some lettuce and deli roast beef. Basicall a salad using the olive oil/balsamic vinegar/dijon mustard dressing. Very tasty and simple. Also added some yogurt to the lunch. Dinner was a crock pot chicken cachitore.
